Concept 2026

Industrial Textile Collection

The State Silk Museum presents an innovative, research-based representation of its Industrial Textile Collection, focusing on samples of industrial fabrics produced during the Soviet era (1950s–1990s), both in Tbilisi and within a broader international context.

The project's main aspects include the conservation of original industrial textile samples through their transformation into leporello-format book objects — a process that both preserves the material and creates a spatial installation. This is accompanied by a video installation in which the archive, textile typologies, and systems of visual classification are explored through a creative narrative based on macro-level details and a documentary perspective.

The initiative is based on three sequences

01

Archive as Material

A visual and material investigation of textile samples.

02

Transition

The transformation of historical textiles into contemporary book-object forms.

03

Reactivation

The reintegration of industrial heritage into contemporary design and exhibition practices. The project aims to enhance the accessibility of this heritage both for international audiences and for the broader public within the museum's permanent exhibition.
